Samuel Henne befasst sich mit materiellen und
visuellen Inszenierungsformen von Objekten, mit zentralen Aspekten der
Darstellung und Darstellbarkeit von Skulptur und ihrer Transformation
ins Bild. Bei seinen neuen Arbeiten setzt sich der Künstler mit Formen
musealer Inszenierung von Displays und Vitrinen sowie der Archivierung
und bildlichen Erfassung von Skulptur und Objekt auseinander. Im Studio
arrangierte, konstruierte Motive werden mittels Setting, Licht- und
Farbregie in prägnante, eigenständige Bildkompositionen übersetzt. Wenn
Samuel Henne sich im künstlerischen Arbeits- und Bildfindungsprozess
vorhandenes Bildmaterial aneignet, es umformt und in neue Kontexte
setzt, zeigt sich deutlich auch sein kunst- und kulturhistorisches
Interesse. Verhandelt werden grundlegende Fragen der Repräsentation, der
Erzeugung von Bedeutung und der Herstellung von Präsenzeffekten.
Freilegen. Ordnen. Verschieben. Etwas zur Erscheinung bringen. Es gibt
einen fundamentalen Zusammenhang zwischen den Arbeiten von Samuel Henne
und den frühen archäologischen Ausgrabungen, deren fotografische
Dokumente er u.a. für seine Ausstellung aufgreift, die zuvor in
ähnlicher Konstellation im Kunstverein Hildesheim zu sehen war.

Samuel Henne’s work is concerned with physical and visual ways of
displaying objects, with key aspects of the representation of and
presentability of sculpture and of its transformation into an image. In
his latest works, the artist grapples with different forms of museum
displays and display cabinets, and with the archiving and visual
recording of sculptures and objects. The staging and the control of
lighting and colour transform the carefully arranged and constructed
motifs in the studio into autonomous visual compositions pregnant with
meaning. In his artistic work and quest for new images, Samuel Henne
appropriates visual material that is already available, reshaping it and
placing it in new contexts, but at the same time also clearly revealing
his own interest in the history of art and culture. He tackles the
underlying issues in representation, in creating meaning and in
producing presence effects.
Uncover. Organize. Relocate. Bring something to light. There is a
fundamental connection between Samuel Henne’s works and the early
archaeological excavations whose photographic documentation is one of
the sources he draws on for this exhibition previously shown in a
similar configuration at the Hildesheim Art Society.
