OLIVER BOBERG

19. Juni - 1. August 2009

Oliver Boberg is exhibiting his current series "Slums", 2009. The "Slums" show different kinds of dwellings presented up close and in fragments as well as seen from the distance and in groups. Boberg is interested in the construction of history and the perception of reality as well as the role of media communication in the course of this. His interdisciplinary work includes model making, photography and computer-aided design.

"Small Slum 1" through "Small Slum 3" are photographed models with a high recognition value because their context is not obvious. The reference and emergence of the stories are rooted not so much in personal experience than rather in media images. The associations evoked by the topic and the title relate to images from newspapers and television. Boberg's computer-aided designs "Great Slum 1" through "Great Slum 5" oscillate between documentary and fiction, high culture and popular art. Their subjects are known from the news and they are implemented by the artist graphically and at times almost picturesquely. At the same time they bring up associations with the scenery of animated cartoons.
